Dementia 101: Polyphenols (Urolithin A) Damages Brain Cells

Yesterday, Chris Shugart over at T-Nation published yet another advertisement-article for their extremely toxic and useless polyphenol supplements. As you likely know by now, polyphenols are defense chemicals produced by plants to deter, hurt, sterilize and kill anyone who tries to damage or consume them. Defense chemicals are extremely toxic and damaging to human physiology.

This time Chris used yet another misinterpreted study that bastardized the science to make a point for you to poison and hurt yourself in order to fight “dementia,” while the outcome of his recommendations will be the total opposite, as in brain damage.

Let’s see what Chris has to say, and I’ll chime in with my 30+ years of experience from this field.

If you live to be 65, your odds of getting dementia are strong, about 1 in 9 people will suffer from it, usually in the form of Alzheimer’s disease, although there are other types of dementia, too. Some of these people get to be President of the United States, but that’s another story.

If you’re not aware, dementia was first recognized among the ancient Egyptians as they began using grains to feed their increasing population and saved the meat for the upper class. However, the occurrence of dementia did not really rise and get noticed until the late 18th century when toxic carbohydrates really made an impact on our diet — again by replacing animal-based foods, our only source of bioavailable nutrition. Pretty much as with diabetes and obesity. And since the 60’s it has rapidly increased all over the world, mostly as a result of an extremely poor non-species diet lacking in animal fats and cholesterol and by the use of cholesterol-lowering drugs. As I’ve helped a lot of elderly people with memory- and cognition difficulties, including Alzheimer’s, I know how extremely important animal fats and cholesterol is. Simply fixing that part of the diet can turn it around in a few weeks. So, instead of looking for band-aids in form of toxic drugs, how about fixing the real issue, that of a total fucked-up diet?

I hope to live to a ripe old age, but not if I lose my mental faculties. I don’t want to be a burden on my family or a discombobulated old geezer, so I’m already thinking about how to prevent dementia with the right nutrition and supplements.

Through nutrition yes, as in animal-based foods, our species-appropriate, species-specific way of eating. Supplements no. All man-made supplements of isolated chemicals and compounds, especially from plants, based on speculation and sketchy backwards-thinking studies are extremely toxic and harmful. The only supplements ever worth considering is actual dried animal-food, as in freeze-dried powder of organs and such.

The latest research points to ellagitannins, a type of polyphenol, or more specifically to something called urolithin A. It works like this: You get ellagitannins from foods like pomegranates, berries, and walnuts. Your gut bacteria transform ellagitannins into the metabolite urolithin A, and that’s where the neuroprotective magic happens.

Have you learned nothing? Polyphenols are defense chemicals. They are made by plants to damage cells of living organisms. You cannot heal or improve a condition by damaging yourself. Well, perhaps in a very short blitz to enforce autophagy and thus mitophagy, the autophagy process ‘believed’ to target the mitochondria. But if used repeatedly, the damage would become overwhelming. We will get to this next.

The New Study

Researchers ordered some custom-made mice with Alzheimer’s. The mice were force-fed urolithin A and all showed improved learning and memory. Even their sense of smell improved.

How’d that happen? Well, a healthy brain removes damaged mitochondria, but neurodegenerative diseases impair that natural process. The weak mitochondria build up and affect brain function. Urolithin A removes these handicapped mitochondria and repairs cognitive function, a process called mitophagy.

Actually, it is called “induced mitophagy” resulting in a “healing crisis.” Urolithin A is a metabolite compound from the extremely toxic defense chemicals known as ‘tannins,’ in this case ‘ellagitannins.’ Urolithin A belongs to the class of compounds known as benzo-coumarins or dibenzo-α-pyrones, which are very toxic and can cause organ damage, especially as it can form the very toxic and unstable compound called 3,4-coumarin epoxide.

So, if you have any kind of logical thinking skills, you should have figured this out by now. What happened to the mice was acute poisoning where Urolithin A caused damage to the brain cells. This in return forced autophagy, as in mitophagy, to occur in an effort to repair the damage. And as the mice already had damaged brain cells, the initial response made them better than they were before being poisoned. However, anyone should be able to figure out what would happen if you continued to poison the mice. Yes, sooner or later the damage from the toxic Urolithin A would overwhelm the healing process and the mice would end up with severe brain and organ damage instead.

And that is what an ‘induced healing crisis’ is — it is a reaction that can occur as the body attempts to eliminate a toxic substance and restore balance. And if we look into biology and microbiology and the limited understanding of Urolithin A, it is classified as highly toxic to mitochondria. Hence it damages the cells and your body tries its best to repair and renew cells that have been damaged. However, your body can only keep that up for a very short time as it requires a lot of resources and considering that most people follow a very bad diet, this is really a recipe for disaster and severe cellular damage.

Again, you should never take anything that causes damage in order to force a healing response. Instead, make sure that you are fully nourished by consuming a lot of animal-based foods, especially animal fats and cholesterol. Then you can induce natural autophagy and mitophagy by fasting for 3 days or more, or even better, by dry fasting for a day or more. This will be many times more effective and without causing any damage by poisoning that might be irreversible. Also, cutting out all toxic processed and plant-based food and focusing only on animal-products will save you some money, and fasting costs you absolutely nothing at all.
Paying good money for a supplement to poison yourself and to possibly cause brain- and organ damage is the definition of insanity.

After this, Chris goes on about what to eat that contains this extremely toxic compound, such as pomegranates, walnuts, strawberries, and raspberries — in other words, some of the most toxic and pesticide-ridden crap you can put in your piehole. Of course, he then mentions, out of convenience, their supplement with highly concentrated and purified toxins. Extremely retarded advice. This poison should be avoided, not encouraged.

To conclude, never take any kind of compound or chemical in the hope of correcting something that you have caused by neglecting your species-appropriate diet and by exposing yourself to toxins and other pollutants. Instead, fix the real problem. Change your diet and be more mindful about what you are exposing your body to. And of course, make sure to really use your mind every day, as in reading and solving logical problems. Feed it and use it, or lose it. It’s not more complicated than that.
