Here we go again with the incredible imbeciles at T-Nation (Chris Shugart) and their ever repeating snakeoil tactics to sell you toxic and totally worthless supplements.
This time they’re promoting unhealthy dark chocolate and their similar supplement to feed unnatural gut bacteria to produce something we normally produce ourselves. Well, let’s see what nonsense the little monkey spat out this time.
“Feeling down? Eat a little of this food every day for three weeks and you’ll feel better. Here’s the science. On a scale from one to five (one = not at all; five = extremely), assess your current mood:
- I feel sad.
- I feel helpless.
- I feel hopeless.
- I feel irritable.
Obviously, a super-low score of 4 means you’re happy and in a great mood. A super-high score of 20 means you’re not doing so well today. Most people score in the mid-range, typically below 10 on most days, ideally.”
If a five is “extremely down” but they’re only four points, I guess we’re all fine then, uh? Well, typing errors aside, I haven’t really felt any of these bullet points since I transitioned to our natural species-appropriate, species-specific hyper carnivore diet in early 2018. If you’re fully nourished, your body and mind will work as intended. Sure, we can all get a bit irritated now and then because of all the mindless NPCs moving along like zombies following the dumbed-down herd, but most of the time I simply chuckle and move on.
Now, if you actually feel down, you do not need a quick fix as that is not doing anything for the underlying cause, the real problem with your physiology. What you need is nourishment and to limit your toxic load, as in removing anything plant-based and processed from your diet and only consuming animal-based food, which is what our physiology is made for.
“Researchers used these measures in a recent study. They gave people the mood tests, fed them a certain food, then gave them the tests again. Oh yeah, the researchers also had the study participants bring in some poop.”
That’s one quality study setup, that is. Yeah, I’m being sarcastic. But for the fun of it, let’s continue.
“What the heck were they studying? Let’s dig into it. Especially the poop.”
I don’t think I even need to comment on that last sentence.
The Study
“Forty-eight men and women, aged 20-30, were given the mood tests mentioned above. Then they pooped in a vial and were given bags of chocolate. There were three groups:
- Some got 70% cocoa dark chocolate.
- Some got 85% cocoa dark chocolate.
- Some got no chocolate (placebo).
For three weeks, the chocolate-eaters consumed 30 grams daily. That’s roughly four or five squares, almost one-third of a chocolate bar (about 175 calories). After the testing period, they re-took the mood tests and did some more pooping.”
As you probably know, cacao pods are botanically classified as baccate-like (berry-like) fruits that are harvested when they turn a vibrant yellow/orange color, which is nature’s way of warning you that it’s extremely toxic. The pods are cut from the tree and opened to extract the seeds, the cacao beans. As you know, seeds are the most toxic part of any plant, as that is how plants reproduce and thus they are extremely high in antinutrients and defense chemicals. This is why some animals that actually eat the plant do not chew the seeds but simply swallow them and poop them out. Actually chewing and eating them would cause extreme damage to the animal. Yet, retarded humans do this.

After harvesting, the seeds are fermented, dried, roasted (causing oxidation of the already toxic fatty acids,) grinded (causing even more oxidation while making the antinutrients and defense chemicals more available upon consumption,) and then pressed into a mass that is alkalized and tempered. In other words, you end up with a cacao mass where all the fatty acids have been oxidized and are even more harmful while all the antinutrients and defense chemicals are much more readily available and will do even greater harm.

“What happened? In a nutshell, the 85% cocoa group showed improved mood scores. The 70% group and the placebo group did not.”
Of course it did. Cacao contain a lot of toxic defense chemicals such a polyphenols. And what happens when you ingest a ton of toxins and rancid fats? Your body goes into a fight-or-flight stress response where all resources are diverted to help you escape a threat and neutralize the toxins. This response includes the release of epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine from the adrenal glands. These hormones increase heart rate, elevate blood pressure, and redirect blood flow to major muscles, preparing the body to either confront or flee from the danger. Additionally, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is engaged, leading to the release of cortisol, which helps maintain energy levels and modulate the immune response. In other words, you feel more energetic, more focused, and if you felt tired or down beforehand, this will feel like a boost in wellbeing because your body is sharpening your senses and focus in order to better survive a threat. That is not a healthy way to feel better, that is a quick fix that is putting an enormous strain on the body every time. It’s the exact same mechanics as when you take caffeine or any other stimulant or drug. The only difference is the intensity which is proportional to the toxic load and the danger from tissue and organ damage.

Tell Me About the Poop!
“Okay. The researchers here were testing how dark chocolate affected mood via the relationship between the gut-brain axis and intestinal microflora (gut bacteria).”
This is irrelevant pseudo-science as your gut flora adapts to what you are eating. It’s simply bacteria that assist in either breaking down nutrients or breaking down toxins and other compounds that the body cannot use or need, like damaging fiber. The more crap you eat, the more “diverse” the gut flora, which actually is a bad thing as it shows how much of a retard you are — consuming sh*t that is not species-appropriate.
The best and healthiest gut flora is the one you develop when you follow your species-appropriate diet, as in actually consuming the foods you are physically made for to consume, which should be common sense.

“The 85% chocolate eaters showed increased gut microbial diversity, including more Blautia obeum, a butyrate-producing bacterium with anti-inflammatory effects. That’s what the poop test was for: to measure the microbial DNA present. The healthier and more balanced the gut bacteria, the better the participants scored on the mood tests. This was largely due to the prebiotic effects of the chocolate.”
Again, the authors of the study and T-Nation’s Chris Shugart showcase their complete lack of understanding of human physiology, simple biology and biochemistry. Yes, butyrate as an energy metabolite will provide energy for the brain and thus improve mood and wellbeing, but that is never a problem for real humans following our natural diet.
Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and other metabolites that are “deemed” as important for gut health as in acetate, propionate, and butyrate, are naturally produced by the body in perfect amounts when we follow our species-appropriate carnivore diet and run on our natural fat metabolism and are in ketosis.

However, when we step out of this natural fat metabolism by consuming toxic plant-matter such as carbohydrates and reduce animal fats, we have to try and rely on other means to get these SCFAs, and this is where bacteria such as Blautia obeum come to our rescue by breaking down some fiber and other toxic compounds to produce butyrate. Again, this is a survival mechanism in case of lack of animal-based foods, a desperate survival solution to provide energy fatty acids for the brain if we are forced to rely on plant-matter for a short while. It is not how we are supposed to get butyrate, as it is produced naturally when we are in ketosis consuming only animal fat and protein, which we are designed to do.
If you need specific plant-based crap to produce butyrate, your diet is extremely unhealthy and the complete opposite of what you should be eating. Again, this should be common sense.
How to Use This Info (DO NOT DO THIS!)
“If you can get used to it, and you can afford to “spend” the calories on it, eat 30 grams of 85% dark chocolate a day. Of course, the higher the percentage the better (higher polyphenol levels). Cocoa or cacao powder should work too. Mood improvements were noticed in three weeks in the above study.
Not a dark chocolate fan? Supplement with… (censored as it’s a retarded supplement plug.)”
Shugart, you frikkin’ imbecile. Do you actually recommend that people poison themselves with polyphenols, as in defense chemicals, and also antinutrients on a daily basis to inflict a stress response, which will wear and tear on the body, reducing people’s life-span only to feel a little bit better — a mental state that can easily be permanently fixed by changing the diet to fit our physiology? You evil little scumbag!
Keep in mind that every single time you consume anything plant-based, be it carbohydrates (all kind of sugars,) seed/vegetable oils, and defense chemicals, antinutrients, heavy metal and pesticide residues that all these plant-based “edibles” contain, you inflict a physiological stress response as all these compounds are toxic. Carbohydrates raise blood glucose to unnatural levels where soft tissues and organs take damage, and thus the body must do everything it can to bring glucose back down to stable natural levels. That is stress. Unsaturated fats from plants are always oxidized and they oxidize even further upon consumption and even more so if blood glucose is elevated, causing a lot of tissue damage and plaque. That is stress. Antinutrients block nutrient absorption while doing damage to tissues. That is stress. Defense chemicals damage all kinds of tissues and can accumulate causing toxic buildup and even tumors. And on it goes — and that is for every bad meal you put in your pie hole, every single day. And on top of this, Chris wants these poor people to poison themselves daily with frikkin cocoa seeds, as in toxic dark chocolate? That’s pure evil, man.

If you feel down, drained, lacking energy and motivation, simply begin to add in more animal-based foods, especially fatty ruminant meat and egg yolks. And at the same time, start removing carbohydrates and then anything that is plant based. Once you are approaching a more animal-based diet you will already have noticed enormous changes in how you feel and how much better you perform. And from there, you will never look back again.
