October 19, 2020. FASTING – Day 1

Morning weight at 75.1 kg (165 lbs). I had my last meal at noon yesterday, so accounting for digestion, I had been in a fasted state for about 12 hours when I woke up this morning. I had about ½ teaspoon of salt, 1/3 teaspoon of potassium chloride and ¼ teaspoon of magnesium sulfate together with about 0.5 liters of water (I will take this three times a day during the fast). After doing some important stuff and checking my to-do list, I went on our morning dog walk. Usually we’re outside for 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending in the weather. Today it was very cold and a bit windy, so we walked the woods to get away from the wind. Although I was only 12 hours into my fast, I’m very fat adapted and run extremely well on my fat stores, which also means that I get a little bit cold. So, our walk this morning was about 1h 15 min.

An hour later me and my brother hit the gym. This was probably my only strength training day during this fast. I don’t like to put unnecessary stress on my body during a fast. It’s already busy recycling damaged cells, creating new stem cells and so on. Repairing muscle tissue with no ingested nutrients, only relying on recycled cells is not ideal. So, in the coming days I will only walk dogs as “exercise”.
After the gym I ran some errands, carried some junk to the recycle station and actually managed to take a few pictures. They did not turn out well, but they’ll have to do (the worst one is attached with this post, you’re welcome).

In the early afternoon I had a wonderful phone conversation with one of the few women that can actually challenge and beat me in many intellectual areas (and in the gym too). I love that! So much positive energy and laughs. Too many people today are boring and just suck the energy right out of you.
Then I had another dog walk for about 45 minutes. When I came home, I could already feel the fat on the stomach getting softer. It’s “melting” away.

My mental energy has been pretty high all day. I’ve done some consulting, answered a lot of questions and did some writing. My body still feel energized and strong as the evening approaches. No hunger. Hardly not even the feeling of emptiness.
Evening walk for 45 minutes. Very cold outside and I did freeze as Lovec stopped to smell every scent in the neighborhood. Evening weight 73,8 kg. Down 1,3 kg.

Next update tomorrow evening.

Photo taken this morning after getting home from the gym. Decent conditioning, but far from my old gold standard.

Addition: Question about fluids and glucose:

No, any form of “calories” will break the fast. We only drink water with electrolytes (sodium, potassium and sometimes magnesium). If you suspect you have gallstones and/or calcification from consuming a lot of leafy greens, fruits, berries and/or excessive vitamin C (ascorbic acid), then you can add a little bit of sodium bicarbonate to help with pH buffering and breakdown of these oxalate crystals.
